Dispute Examiner
An exciting opportunity to use your housing law knowledge, casework expertise and your excellent customer care skills to establish whether complaints lie within our jurisdiction, and if they do, the most appropriate route for their resolution. Your triaging / case screening activity will play a vital role in resolving a wide range of disputes between landlords and tenants and contribute to making a difference for millions of households.
The Housing Ombudsman Service provides independent, impartial and fair dispute resolution services for nearly 5 million households in England. Through resolving disputes effectively and promoting positive change across the social housing sector, we improve residents’ lives and landlords’ services.
Working as part of a busy team, you will apply your detailed knowledge of housing law, the Ombudsman’s jurisdiction and your excellent customer care skills to assess cases when a landlord’s internal complaint process is complete.
You will speak with residents to confirm what issues remain unresolved for them and identify the most appropriate route for complaint resolution.
Key requirements include the organisational skills to work with a high volume of information at pace and with accuracy; a logical and analytical approach, along with the ability to consider complex housing issues. Equally important will be your emotional awareness; your active listening skills; and your ability to speak confidently, clearly and fluently avoiding jargon or criticism. Your desire to help people find solutions will be matched by total impartiality at all times. You’ll be able to work autonomously, but nonetheless will be a supportive team player.
In addition to the salary offered, we also offer a range of other benefits including a commitment to a healthy work / life balance, including a 35 hour working week and flexitime.
It’s an exciting time to join us and to contribute your skills to the evolution of this ambitious, influential and growing organisation.
